So What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient art that is estimated to have started over 3,000 years ago.

Presumed to have been started by Chinese monks, the initial theory of acupuncture deals with the energy that is gained in the body at the moment of conception and lost at the time of death. This energy is also known as Spirit, Chi, or Innate energy and is not just a mass within the body. Instead, it courses through the body in many adjacent running rivers that have become known as “Meridians”. When illness or pain occurs, it is thought that a single river – or meridian – may have had its energy dynamically changed through life’s mishaps in such a way that the energy is blocked. This blockage can cause the energy to overflow into adjacent meridians – like a river overflowing its banks – causing a ripple effect that soon affects the natural flow of body energy.

A trained acupuncturist will turn the energy flow back on in the blocked meridian by stimulating the affected Meridian points. In time, this will cause all affected meridians to once again flow properly, restoring health and reducing pain.

As modern day scientists have researched acupuncture, they have found that acupuncture treatments cause a change in blood flow and blood chemistry. One notable reaction is the body’s production of endorphins. With these findings, a new aged acupuncturist has emerged, practicing what has become known as “contemporary style”.
